What is a PWC?

We'll start by identifying more closely what a personal watercraft is. PWC emerged from one Norwegian-American inventor's desire to recreate the experience of riding a motorcycle on the water instead, which would be safer. Clayton Jacobson II was an avid motorcyclist who suffered a crash and decided that if he were on a vehicle that hit the water, he would be in less danger. So he developed the initial prototypes for the first personal watercraft in the late 1960s.

Generally speaking, a PWC has space for anywhere from one to three passengers, along with some storage space and a small swim platform for entering and exiting the water or sunbathing while you're not in motion. Personal watercraft are usually sit-down style, operated with handlebars and a throttle, and they have a kill-switch that attaches to the operator's wrist or life vest to cut the engine if the operator falls off.
